52 Weeks of Personal Genealogy - Home

Following Amy Coffin of the We Tree blog and her suggestion, this week we talk about our home.
"Describe the house in which you grew up. Was it big or small? What made it unique? Is it still there today?"
When I was born, my parents lived in an apartment in Albaro, a residential district of Genoa. The house was halfway between the house of my maternal grandparents and the house of my paternal grandmother, who already was a widow. Considering where my uncles lived, my family was probably the closest to both grandparents.
The apartment was perhaps on the second or third floor. Upstairs lived my best friend at the time, Margherita, and we always
played together. I remember the games on the roof terrace. And I remember the elevator, which we did not use.
In the winter of 1972 we moved from Via Pisa, where our building overlooked a busy road, to another quieter street.
Our building was now in a private road, had a beautiful garden where my sister and I played with all the children of the nearby houses, a little group of boys and girls of our age.
We lived in this apartment until 1980, when my parents managed to buy an apartment in the building in front of us, and we moved in!

The house is still there, all of them are...
